Located in coffee country 28 kilometers from Guatemala City, this town of 18,000 people celebrates the 'Virgen de Candelaria' every February 2nd and 'El Sagrado Corazon de Jesus' every February 4th. These religious celebrations coincide with the culmination of the coffee harvest, making this a festive time indeed, with processions, music and food in abundance. Some call Fraijanes Cuna del Café or the birthplace of coffee, and the world's favorite beverage is a big deal here. Fraijanes has few lodging options, so plan to return to Guatemala City. Admission to most events is free.
