Groot Constantia is where the roots of the South African wine industry lie. This estate, the oldest in the country, was developed by Governor Simon van der Stel who received it as a gift in 1685. Since then, Groot Constantia has an uninterrupted record as a wine farm and its name is irrevocably linked to the most famous wines ever made in South Africa. Groot Constantia produces a range of award winning wines, excelling in reds as well as whites. The Estate offers wine tasting and sales, a museum in the magnificent manor house, a beautiful historic cellar with a sculptured pediment gable, an art gallery, two gift shops and two superb restaurants.
